Board Member Covert commented she likes the idea of using a local business.
Businesses like this do have other markets, but she mentioned a concern that the City
could lose a company if they didn't do business with them.
6. BOARD / STAFF INPUT
• Policy Relating to Septic Systems in Proximity to Floodplains and/or Wetlands
City Planner Anderson noted a few situations have arisen. Staff is working on forming a
policy with specifics in place regarding septic systems in proximity to wetlands and
floodways. One of the factors is wetland delineation and how to determine how that plays
into solutions. The Planning and Engineering staff are putting this together and will be
presented at a meeting in the near future.
• Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee
City Planner Anderson explained this will be a large committee of about 15 people. He
asked the Board if there is someone that would like to volunteer. If not, there will be an
appointing process.
Chairperson Stodola asked about the time commitment.
City Planner Anderson replied there are possibly 6 meetings throughout this year, and
there may be some next year.
Board Member Covart questioned whether the role is to bring information from this
Board to their meetings.
City Planner Anderson responded each of the individual Boards or Commissions within
the topic of the Comp Plan will lead the charge on their individual topics.
Councilmember LeTourneau commented he is excited about the Comp Plan update. It's
a huge topic and a lot of work, but a great opportunity to have an impactful voice of how
this community will look 10 to 20 years out.
Board Member Valentine volunteered to be part of this Committee.
Board member Covart stated she is interested in being a back up to Board Member
Valentine. She asked if anyone could be in the audience at the meetings.
City Planner Anderson said the meetings are open to the public. However, the Steering
Committee Members are the only people that can indulge in discussion.
Board Member Anderson requested the meeting schedule be communicated.
City Planner Anderson said he will send the information out.
Environmental Policy Board / June 20, 2016
Page 6 of 7
