Archeology Grant
In March we began a year-long partnership with Dakota,
Ramsey, and Scott County Historical Societies focused
on Minnesota archaeology, funded through the Legacy
Amendment.This innovative collaboration allowed for
the hire of archaeological liaison Jeremy L.Nienow,
PhD.,RPA of Nienow Cultural Consultants, who led
` partners in the opportunity to learn more about the
archaeology in their county;develop a deeper
appreciation for their archaeological collections;how to
scope,fund,and complete archaeological projects;and to
provide a series of educational archaeological programs.
Dr.Nienow produced multiple documents for ACHS
including archaeological sites and collections summaries tailored to Anoka County.
He also led demonstrations at both Linwood Family Fest and the Nowthen Threshing
Show.Dr.Nienow provided programming for our Young Historians Program as well
as a presentation for the Anoka County Library's Dewey Lecture series.Dr.Nienow
also implemented field projects for ACHS including ground penetrating radar at the
Ramsey Cemetery conducted pro-bono by geophysicist Don Johnson;carbon-14 and
bone analysis of a collection of bison bones from Anoka County archaeological site
21AN30;macrobotanical(plant)and amino acid(animal) studies from ceramics and
soils at site 21AN20;and x-ray florescence examination of ceramic and copper objects
from ACHS collections.
