That could be accomplished if all citizens would <br />keep their yards clean and plant trees and bushes. ~Ycher key issue is to <br />get a good east/west alternate major thoroughfare in Ramsey. <br /> <br />Councilmember Steve DeLuca 1987 Goal Statement - Stated that in reviewing <br />the goals for Ramsey, he believes planning for the future is the primary <br />area of concern. The steps taken today will affect the City for years to <br />come. Citizen involvement is equally important. Local government is <br />dependent upon input and direction. In a democracy, people not (x~ly have a <br />right to express their opinion, but an obligation to participate and be <br />involved. Economic develolment is necessary to Provide the quality of life <br />desired. Better fire protection, better parks and better roads all require <br />money; somebody has to pay for it. If we have strong commercial and <br />'industrial centers, that quality of life becomes affordable. <br /> <br />Councilmember Cox 1987 Goal Statement - Stated that the n~nber one goal is <br /> <br />a fire department. ~ere i~.a joint fire department serving P~msey that is <br />costing over $60,O00/year;abut there is a problem with response time. <br /> <br />Consideration should be given to using landfill funds to start a fire <br />department in the n~ar future. The issue should be on the next Council <br />agenda for discussion. This council is a positive ~omlcil looking towards <br />the ommm/ntty in a positive manner and moving onto good things in years to <br />c~me. The last 3-4 years have not been as productive as they should have <br />been. Park facilities need improvem~ents and with the new R~AA leadership, <br />those things should come about. Another concern is the limited funds that <br />are available to Ramsey for socio-ecor~mic activity. A non-sectarian YMCA <br />would be a real asset to Ramsey and we should urge those people to bring a <br />facility to Ramsey. We should continue to pursue sewer and water <br />improvements in the industrial area in order to expand Ramsey's tax base. <br />~-ycling should be encouraged to reduce the influx of waste into the <br />landfill. Ramsey should be ~ooperating with Waste Management of Minnesota, <br />Inc. for a good recycling program. Another thing to be looked at is <br />privatization of as many aspects as possible in the c~.,,m~ity. A previous <br />council motion to review areas of privatization has not been carried out <br />and it should be pursued. City Council wants a good relationship with the <br />voters by keeping them informed; government should be kept in the hands of <br />the voters. Will continue to reduce goverm~ent spending, if possible, and <br />keep spending at a minimum in Ramsey. <br /> <br />Councilmember A1 Sorteberg 1987 Goal Statement - Stated that he has been <br />involved in local gove~ for a long time and he thinks Ramsey is moving <br />ahead in a very good manner.
