Minnesota Magazine <br /> <br />AugustiSeptember 19S7 <br /> <br />Minnesota draws more <br />out-of-state corporations <br /> <br />A 21 percent increase in the number of out-of-state <br />corporations granted authority to do business in <br />Minnesota has been reported by the Secretary of State's <br />Office. The increase covers the first six months of 1987 <br />compared with the same period in 1986. <br /> <br />Through June of this year, 712 non-Minnesota <br />corporations were gTanted authority to do business here, <br />compared with 589 in 1986. In all, 9,453 out-of-state <br />corporations are authorized to operate in Minnesota. <br /> <br />In the same period, the office granted 5,027 new <br />corporate charters for Minnesota corporations, down <br />slightly from the 5,038 charters granted in the ficst half <br />of 1986. There were 5,124 assumed business name <br />certificates filed, compared with 4,996 in 1986. <br /> <br />The number of foreign limited partnership qualifications <br />increased by 61 percent over 1986, with 58 in the first half <br />of this year. The number of domestic limited partnerships <br />increased slightly. <br /> <br />Top award in exporting <br />given to Chaska company <br /> <br />The nation's highest exporting award was given recently <br />to Galtek Corp. of Chaska, manufacturer of plastic fluid <br />handling products for the semiconductor industry. <br />Galtek was one of eight companies given the Presidential <br />"E" Award in recognition of its significant contribution <br />so the export business in this country. The company <br /> <br />increased its foreign exports from 8.5 percent to 20 <br />percent of its total manufacturing sales. <br />Galtek initiated its international business last year with <br />an exhibit at a large trade show in New York City. It also <br />hired a Europe-based salesman. Today, the company <br />exports to Southeast Asia, Europe and other foreign <br />markets. Dan Quernemoen, chairman and chief executive <br />of Fluoroware Inc., the parent company, attributes <br />Galtek's success to an emphasis on customer needs. <br />These include using metric measurements and foreign <br />language manuals. <br /> <br />Free booklet discusses <br />food industry regulations <br />A new publication titled Starting a Food ]{usiness i~ <br />Minnesota is available from the Minnesota Small <br />Business Assistance Office.
