C-F DC Hosts <br /> <br /> Coon Rapids Development Company sponsored its Sixth <br />Annual City- and C:unty-,vide Workshop for Progress at <br />Cragun's Confe:ence Center on September 18 and 19, <br />1987, to review the economic development activities of the <br />City of Coon Rapids and discuss important issues for the <br />future. CRDC requested and received broad community- <br />and county-wide attendance lrom several agencies involved <br />in the local economic development effort. There were 23 <br />participants representing the City of Coon Rapids, Coon <br />Rapids Development Company, Anoka County Economic <br />Development Partnership, Anoka County Business <br />Assistance Network (ACBAN), Glacier Park Company and <br />the banking community. <br /> The first presentation at this year's workshop was a <br />review of last year's objectives and accomplishments. Listed <br />below are the priorities developed at last year's workshop <br />along with the activities which have led us to the <br />achievement of these goals: <br /> <br />Sixth Annual Wcrkshop for Progress <br /> CRDC and AC3AN activities. Review of Coon Rapids area <br /> economic development agencies, Coon Rapids Develop- <br /> ment Issues, Update on Coon Rapids Industrial Park and <br /> Marketing Program, Coon Rapids 2000 Project, Coon <br /> Rapids Legislative Issues, Economic Development Venture <br /> Fund. <br /> <br />· IMPROVED TRANSPORTATION NETWORK AND AC- <br /> CESS TO THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION <br /> SYSTEM <br /> 1. Opening of 610 Crosstown Highway. <br /> 2. Opening of new river briCge. <br /> 3. Joint Powers Agreement for the extension of Highway <br /> 610 between Anoka County, Coon Rapids and Blaine. <br /> 4. Additional construction on Foley Boulevard, 101st and <br /> University, Woodcrest Drive, Northdale to Main Street, <br /> ar, d County Road 18. <br /> <br /> The last session was held to determine the economic <br />development priorities for the coming year. Although there <br />were over twenty suggestions, the priorities were narrowed <br />down to five, and they include: <br /> <br />· COORDINATION OF A LEGISLATIVE LOBBYING EF- <br /> F.ORT FOR THE AREA <br /> <br />· SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT ON PROJECT 2000 AND THE <br /> INTEGRATIC'~ OF THE NEW DIRECTIONS IDENTIFIED <br /> <br />· EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF DEVELOPMENT OF <br /> COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL LAND ON THE <br /> QUALITY OF LIFE <br /> <br />· EVALUATE WAYS TO BE MORE COMPETITIVE WITHIN <br />THE METROPOLITAN AREA <br /> <br />· INTEGRATED INFORMATION NETWORK SYSTEM <br /> <br /> We look forward to a successful year and to the Seventh <br />/,nnual Workshop For Progress in 1988. <br /> <br />· CONTINUATION OF THE EFFORT TO UPGRADE THE <br /> IMAGE OF THE COMMUNITY AND SURROUNDING <br /> AREA <br /> 1. Honeywell relocation. <br /> 2. Media attenton re: Highway 610 and bridge. <br /> 3. Minnesota Medical Enterprise Park. <br /> 4. New recreation facilities. <br /> 5. Minnesota Real Estate Journal Market Focus. <br /> 6. Continued marketing efforts by the City. <br /> <br />· PROMOTION FOR DEVELOPMENTOc REGIONAL MALL 1. Negotiations with land owners. <br /> 2. Additional tenants ir, the MinnesoTa Medical Enterprise <br /> park (see City of Coon Rapids Report). <br /> <br />· DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ALTERNATIVE FINANCING <br /> PROGRAMS IN RESPONSE TO FEDERAL AND STATE <br /> LEGISLATIVE CHANGES <br /> 1. Use of taxable bonds by the City. <br /> 2. Continued use of Cornmunit/ Development Block <br /> Grant (CDBG~and SBA 504 funds. <br /> <br /> In addition, participants at this year's workshop were <br />treated to presentat~orts on the following ~'ooics: Review of <br /> <br /> Coon Rapids Development Company is a private, <br />not-for-profit corporation funded by servicing fees <br />collec'~ed from SBA loans and sales of stock. Its major <br />functions are to promote economic development in <br />the Cit-;' of Coon Rapids and assist in the expansion <br />and/or relocation of businesses in Coon Rapids. <br /> <br /> The CRDC News is published quarterly by the <br />Board of Directors of CRDC.
