<br /> Commercial and industrial construction activity in Coon
<br />Rapids con: hues to run ahead of last year's projects. From
<br />January through August of this year, permit values for all
<br />commercial and industrial proje:'ts totals $13,361,872.
<br />This compares with permit values of $7,826,572 for the
<br />same time period in 1986. From January to August, in-
<br />clusive, the 1987 permit values for all construction (com-
<br />mercial, industrial, single-family homes, apartments) totals
<br />$63,286,522. Leading the way are permits for 385 new
<br />single-family homes totaling $37,583,000.
<br /> Below are updates on projects under way in Coon
<br />Rapids.
<br />
<br />Honeywell Selects Coon Rapids for Facility
<br />
<br /> In mid-July, Honeywell, Inc., announced that its Air
<br />Transport Systems Division would occupy a 185,000
<br />square foot facility at 8840 Evergreen Boulevard by the
<br />first of the year.
<br /> Prior to occupying the building, the interior will be reno-
<br />vated to meet Honeywell's needs.
<br /> Additional information on Honeywell's announcement

<br />Evergreen Industrial Park
<br />
<br /> Groundbreaking for Air-Mo Hydraulics of Blaine was
<br />held in early September. Air-Mo Hydraulics is involved in
<br />the manufacturing of hydraulic tooling -- a necessary com-
<br />ponent in heatinL: units and air conditioners. Triplex
<br />Systems and Technoturn, Inc., divisions of Air-Mo.
<br />manufacture industrial pumps that are used in refineries
<br />and paper mills.
<br /> Construction of the 12,000 square foot office and shop
<br />will be finished prior to January 1, 1988.
<br />
<br />Coon Rapids Industrial Park
<br />
<br /> A Purchase Agreement between the Coon Rapids Hous-
<br />ing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) and Quaiit:.'
<br />Platemaking, Inc. was recently approved.
<br /> Plans call for the construction of a 10,000 square foot
<br />building which will house office and production areas.
<br /> Currently located in Arden Hills, Quality Platemaking
<br />designs and produces labeling and togc graphics for boxing
<br />and crating materials. The company emplevs 20 people and
<br />expects to add additional employees fol'.owing its expan-
<br />sion.
<br /> Other prospects and recent inquiries are also moving
<br />toward Purchase Agreements.
<br />
<br />Minnesota Medical Enterprise Park
<br />
<br /> Progress cor, tinues on the 1lO-acre Enterprise Park. in
<br />!ate March, Cardio-Pace Medical. Inc. completed its move
<br />int: The 71,000 square foot Medical Enterprise Center I.
<br />Cardio-Pace manufactures heart pacemakers and
<br />distributes related software products. The company oc-
<br />cupies just under i0,000 square ieet in the Center which is
<br />designed to provide off~ce and manufacturing space to es-
<br />tablished medical proz:uct compznies.
<br /> Other tenants in the Center include TP,:: Alpha Business
<br />Group, a bio-medical consulting/venture management
<br />

<br />partnership. Alpha and The Gaughan Companies are co-
<br />developers of the Medical Park's f:.rst two buildings.
<br /> The Alpha-Gaughan partnership is also finalizing plans
<br />for an ethylene oxide sterilization facility within MMEC-I.
<br />The facility will utilize approximately 20,000 square feet
<br />and will provide medical device manufacturers with quality
<br />sterilization services as well as technical support on
<br />sterilization problems. A large number of existing medical
<br />products firms have expressed interest in contracting for
<br />the services. It will also provide another amenity to attract
<br />mature firms to the Park.
<br /> C.G. Bundy and Associates, an FDA consultant, will also
<br />occupy office space in the Center.
<br /> Radax, Inc., will occupy 5,000 square feet by November
<br />1st. They digitally archive x-rays on laser disks.
<br /> Pulsetrend, Inc., manufactures 24-hour ambulatory
<br />blood pressure device and will occupy space in the Center
<br />beginning in October.
<br /> Other prospects are expected to commit to space prior to
<br />the end of the year.
<br /> The Park's second building, the Medical Enterprise
<br />Center II, is a 42,000 square foot "incubator" facility that
<br />provides start-up medical companies with shared access to
<br />tool rooms, clean environments, etc. during their initial
<br />R & D phase. Once research is completed, companies will
<br />leave the incubator for other locations throughout the
<br />Medical Park.
<br /> Plans are being finalized by Shamrock Construction
<br />Company for a daycare center ~o be constructed in the
<br />Minnesota Medical Enterprise Park. The cen'ter will be
<br />licensed for 99 children. The facility meets a need express-
<br />ed by the Honeywell Company. It will also serve other
<br />users in the area.
<br /> The 1lO-acre Enterprise Park is designed exclusively for
<br />medical product companies and their suppliers. The Park
<br />provides sites for sale or lease to medical technology com-
<br />panies interested in relocating, expanding, or consolidating
<br />operations into a ~',, ~ ,~ '
<br /> .,..s,n~- ~ampus setting.
<br />
<br />Commercial Projects
<br />
<br />Wash America and MetroWash are two car washes that
<br />recently opened along Coon Rapids Boulevard.
<br /> An Auto Service Mall located between Coon Rapids
<br />C~,:vsier and Hayford Plumbing is under construction. ·
<br /> A Rocky Rococo Restaurant opened near Crooked Lake
<br />Boulevard and Coon Rapids Boulevard. Plans for a
<br />Firestone Tire Center have also been approved in this area.
<br /> Round Lake Shoppes, a 40,000 square foot shopping
<br />center at Coon Rapids Boulevard and Round Lake Boule-
<br />vard ~s under construction.
<br /> Food 'n Fuel located in the Soccer Complex Convenience
<br />Ce'nter at 113th Avenue and Robinson Drive recently
<br />opened as did an Amoco Station at Hanson Boulevard and
<br />Northdale Boulevard.
