Athletic Facilities Grant Program

The Athletic Facilities Grant Program is a special program funded by state bonding
monies for the development of local athletic facilities. The intent of the program is
to accelerate the development of athletic fields and courts throughout the State, based
on a demand that was not being met through the competitive ranking process. The
Athletic Facilities Program is more restrictive in terms of eligible facilities and grant
maximums than the traditional LAW(CON/state program. Grants are awarded to eligible
recipients, based on the quality of their proiect proposal as it relates to the onsite
review and ranking of the proiect.

Funding

For FY'88, a grant award can equal up to 50% of the total eligible proiect costs, up
to a maximum of $40,000. The remaining 50%, or the "local share," can consist of
cash; donations of material, labor, and equipment usage; in-kind contributions; or any
combination thereof.

Proposed state legislation for FY'88 would provide the following funding levels:

· $250,000: Proiects in the seven-county Minneapolis/St. Paul Metropolitan Area

· $250,000: Projects in Greater Minnesota

An applicant may not receive more than one state grant per biennium (fiscal years
1988 and 1989), Once an athletic facility is acquired and/or developed with state
grants, the site and any subsequent additions are to remain and be maintained as
outdoor recreation facilities by the applicant into perpetuity.
