RECREATION STANDARDS

Recreation activities can be divided into two groups--active and
passive. Active recreation includes such activities as hiking, base-
ball, tennis, soccer. Passive recreation includes picnicking, nature
watching, strolling. Facilities for these types of recreation should
be available to the public on three levels:

1. Neighborhood - an area of approximately one square mile.

2. Community - facilities designed for the residents of a single
town, village or city.

3. Regional or Metropolitan - facilities intended for use by
residents of several communities---such facilities would
include major community parks, county parks, state parks
and other large facilities.

-g-
