Site ~17, Deerwood Deerwood is a lO.g acre area of standing wetland and dense brush. There are two high spots ..... {1} adjoining 177th Avenue as an access point to the south, and {2) another inaccessible point located on the west central edge. Since no improvements are feasible, the site should be left as is. Site #18, Shawn Acres This site is presently only partially developed--with some play- ground equipment, benches, grill and picnic table. Its 4.3 acres are abutting residences to the north and south, and buffered by Chameleon Street to the west, and by a very large marsh to the east. The park is marked by approximately 2.5 acres of dry land that slopes gradually to the east, where approximately 1.5 acres are marsh land. Consideration should be given to reshaping the park to accommodate additional facilities and fencing off the park along the property lines to the north and south. Site #19, Caroline Acres Caroline Acres is a 2.4 acre park that is over 50% pond or marsh. One high piece of ground is accessible by a small portion of the cul de sac on 178th Lane N.W., which is the only access road to the park. There are two additional areas of high ground, which are inaccessible because of the marsh. Since this is a small piece of land that adjoins a larger undesignated swamp area, and because improvements are not feasible, it is recom- mended that this site be left as is. Site #20, Ramsey Elementary School Ramsey Elementary School's 47 acres currently serve as the only large neighborhood playground and athletic park in the city. Located on County Road 5 in the planned urban district zone, access to this park school is very good. The site contains an improved baseball diamond for Little League and softball, many pieces of play apparatus, a hockey rink and an open skating rink, and the school which is open for indoor recreation with the Community School Program. The land is well drained, but does contain a drainage area to the extreme western boundary..which enhances the site. Considerations should be given to expanding athletic facilities and providing new facilities, such as: tennis courts, running trails, and the like, and shelter areas. - 18 -
