III. PARKS INVENTORY

There are a total of 943 acres of parks and playfields in the City owned by
various entities including:

No. of Sites Acreage Owner

2 500 acres
I 18 acres
1 47 acres
34 378 acres
943 acres

Anoka County
State Wayside Park
Ramsey Elementary School (Dist. 11)
City of Ramsey

As earlier indicated, the primary focus of State and County owned lands is
preservation of natural resources and passive recreation opportunities. The
elementary school provides space for active recreation facilities with a
developed playground, ice rinks, warming house and ball diamonds.
Approximately one-third of the City parks are developable with the remaining
acreage comprised of lowland wetland areas providing open space.
Development other than small amounts of playground equipment has been
limited to:

Central Park- Community Playfields
Titterud Park - Neighborhood Park
River's Bend Park- Community Park
Autumn Heights Park - Neighborhood Park
Traprock Commons - Special Use

Table 2 provides a summary of the park acreage and Figure 3 outlines the
facilities within the developed parks in the City. Table 3 further provides a
summary of parks and evaluation based on site visits by Parks Commission
members. Figure 4 illustrates the location of parks and trails within the City's
park system.

As indicated, a number of the parcels are undeveloped areas, others serve
various functions within the park system and are classified according to a
specific parks classification.

The City has pursued the development of a trail system through park
dedication since 1987. At this time, several segments of trail corridors and
rights-of-way are within the system, but no trails are yet fully developed.
Approximately four miles of trail corridor are currently in the City's park
system.

Additional outdoor recreation facilities open to the public are provided through
the private sector including Rum River Hills Golf Course (18 holes) and
St. Anthony Gun Club (sport shooting). A new 18 hole golf course is
proposed to be constructed in 1991 as part of the North Fork Planned Unit
Development.

The Boy Scouts of America also operate a recreation facility for scouts which
encompasses approximately 160 acres along the Rum River.

8
