Methodology used in the estimates is
similar to that applied at many of the sanitary landfills operated by
Waste Management, Inc. throughout the nation. The site end-of-life
closure cost is relatively straight forward. It describes work
involved in completing the site covering and the establishment of
vegetation, the various notifications, and the preparation of the
certification of closure. Costs are as follows:
1. Placement of Final Cover

Ten acres will remain.uncovered at the end
of the site life. ~it~ a 2..foot_t~ickness
32,200 cubic yards will be needed. Of this,
1 foot must be m~terial having a permeability
of less than 10- cm/sec.

32,000 cu. yds. at $1.00/cu. yd. hauling
plus $1.00/cu. yd. placing and grading =
32,000 x $2.00/cu. yd.

$ 64,000

2. Topsoil

The upper six inches must be capable of
supporting adequate turf cover on a long
term basis. This quantity of 8,100 cubic
yards is available on-site.

8,10O cu. yds/ at SI.OD/cu. yd. hauling
plus $1.00/cu. yd. placing and grading :
8,100 x $2.00/cu. yd.

$ 16,200
