Authorize Purchase and Installation of Fencing and Lighting for Police <br />Impound Lot <br /> By Chief Jim Way <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />Three vehicles in the possession of the police department, waiting for court dispositions, <br />were broken into and damaged while being stored next to the Public Works buildings. <br />The current unsecured location is difficult to monitor by police staff. <br /> <br />The Police Department is requesting the installation of a fence and lighting on the City <br />property north of 142nd Avenue and west of Jaspar Street. The property would be used <br />solely as an impound lot for the Police Department's seized vehicles. <br /> <br />Thc proposed location would allow officers to check the vehicles more frequently, <br />provide increased security for them and free-up parking space in the public works <br />parking lot. <br /> <br />Staff' Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff is recommending that the police department install a fence and lighting on City <br />property to be used for storage of impounded vehicles, for an amount not to exceed <br />$5,100.00. Funding could be obtained from the Council Contingency Fund or the <br />Equipment Replacement Fund. <br /> <br />Council Action: <br /> <br />Motion to adopt Resolution 04-07-XXXX to install a fence and lighting for a Police <br />Department impound lot. <br /> <br />Reviewed by: <br /> <br />Police Chief <br />Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br /> <br />
