From what I understand, you are well qualified for this position. As a ooncerned citizen and business person of Ramsey and Minnesota, I am very concerned about the State's business climate. I recognize that your task to improve this climate is a formidable one indeed. I further recognize that we are all going to have to work very hard towards this goal. For background information, I am enclosing pertinent data that points out some of the problems with the State's business climate. Enclosure A is an article that appeared in the Redwood Gazette. It cites probl~ns that current tax laws have created for businesses and citizens in Moorhead and all of Minnesota. Some people read this as a tongue-in-cheek article, but the author wrote it in all seriousness. I am sure that you are aware of the gravity of this si tuation. Enclosure B was prepared by the Anoka County Assessor's Office which s~s when the problems really started developing with the property taxes in the State of Minnesota. In the late 1960's and early 1970's, Minnesota had a good business climate. Due to the perceived quality of life in Minnesota, it was assumed that businesses would choose to locate in Minnesota. ~owever, the taxes quickly altered the quality of life for businesses in Minnesota. Consequently, and I realize that I represent only myself, it seems to me that you face a nt~ber of issues that need resolution in the i~iate future. A. Big Businesses/Corporations must comply with the following laws/tax policies: - Corporate tax laws - State withholding tax - Property tax laws - Workers' Compensation laws B. Mid-sized businesses are plagued with the same regulations as the big businesses and corporations.
