In a very candid and objective manner Engineer Brovn
suggested that in order to accommodate the 'long range ~za~£ic loads projected for
Ferry Street by the turn of the century (56,000 vehi~les/~ay by the year 2000),

dramatic and extremely expensive construction upgrading rill be a necessity.

Re suggested three possible alternative courses of action needed to address this
certain growth in traffic during the next lO-L5 years:

'1)

2)

A phased inproveuent program for the present Champlin-Anoka route on
Ferry Street. Within 25 years this ultimately vill involve an
additional bridge across the ltississippi in close proximity and
parallel to the existing liississippi ILiver Bridge. Also required
at that tine vould be extensive right-of-way acquisition that has
been estinated by DOT to have an anticipated $10 mLtlion price tag
betveen the Hlssissippi River ·nd the T.H. l0 bypass in An·ks.

A re-routin&, l~y'DO'Z*, of T~H. 47 from its present' fairgrounds lo-
cation to a ney route either east or vest of Anoka, coupled vith ·
DOT JLtsst_ssippi River crossing vhich vould continue to be · part
of the .Mn. T.H. system. This vould involve IL/~ acquisition costs
in the estimated sun of $23 to $25 million in addition to the costs
of the river ct··sing and approach linkages.

II
