Raatikka
City of Ramsey
15153 Northwest Nowthen Boulevard
Anoka, Minnesota 55303

RE:

River's Bend Environmental Assessment Work'sheet (EAW)

Dear Mr. Raatikka:

The Depa~ment of Natural Resou~es (DNR) has reviewed the
above-referenced document and we offer the following comments for your
consideration.

In a meeting with the project proposer, DNR staff has identified several
plat changes that are necessary before we can certify the project. Several
changes are necessary in order to avoid locating building sites in the
floodway and to relocate lot lines that are in the river bed. In addition, a
protected waters pemit will be required for filling wetland basin 2-680~, a
four-acre, Type III marsh. The proposer has agreed to realign the road to
minimize encroachment on this wetland.

The wetland area provides habitat for a variety of wildlife species. In order
to preserve the habitat value, we suggest that the developer maintain a buffer
area of natural vegetation around the wetland. In order to provide maximum
protection for wildlife, the buffer area should be 150 feet wide.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this project.

!c..y~ Thomas W.
