Letters were sent to thirteen applicants based on applications on file. These letters inquired of them their continued interest and eleven affirmative responses were received. Oral inter- views were arranged and scheduled for November 26 and 27, 1984. The oral board was comprised of myself and Officers Gustafson, Anderson, and Balabon. I have worked around him and in discussions with many of the other officers who have worked with and around him, he is an excellent officer. He is a certified Breathalyzer operator and Firearms Instructor. He has a long list of schools which, alone, make him a good investment for the City of Ramsey. He has assisted us many times in our city, on calls, and I believe that he could work alone in the city with an absolute minimal time of geographic familiarization thereby causing the very least interruption in police services. If he is hired, I recommend he be put on a one year probation period at a pay rate equivalent to 79% of top patrol for 1985 (79% is the previously set first year rate). At the end of one year his performance should be reviewed and if he has performed as I expect him to, he should be advanced to top patrol rate for 1986. In all other aspects of employment benefits he will start at the beginning and progress in the fashion laid out by ordinance and employee contract.
