Parks & Assistant Public Works Superintendent Riverblood stated they should plan to check in
on the progress around Step 5 of the project to stay informed and involved, and to include full
Council in the discussion also by this same time.
The Public Works Committee agreed.
Motion by Councilmember Kuzma, seconded by Councilmember Johns, to recommend the City
Council cap funding from the Parks and Recreation Department at $11,989 and to accept the
proposal from WSB and Associates, Inc.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Councilmembers Kuzma and Johns. Voting No: Chairperson
Riley. Absent: Councilmember Shryock.
5.03 Develop Policy for Installation of Non-Priority Street Lights
Public Works Superintendent Riemer introduced the item and stated he often gets inquiries and
complaints about street lighting. He thought being proactive about this issue and setting a policy
for this would be helpful. Public Works Superintendent Riemer noted he has told people that
getting a floodlight for the front of their house would be a good cost effective option to address
their safety concerns for when they exit their cars and go into their houses in the evenings. He
stated most people were pleased with this idea.
Chairperson Riley asked about the current policy already in place for intersections and
subdivisions and if this covers this issue as well.
Public Works Superintendent Riemer stated it does on some level but there isn't anything about
lighting for properties further out.
Chairperson Riley stated he would like to leave the policy as it current reads. He stated having
the priority lighting policy in place is working fine for now and should this issue become a more
substantial issue they can address it then, but for the time being he feels it is best to continue
being fair to all residents.
Motion by Chairperson Riley, seconded by Councilmember Kuzma to leave the policy as it
current reads.
Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairperson Riley, Councilmembers Kuzma and Johns. Voting
No: None. Absent: Shryock.
5:04: Receive Neighborhood Petition Requesting Change to Current Traffic Control
Public Works Superintendent Riemer reviewed the proposed project and plan. He stated the
recommendation is to install a stop sign to correct this traffic issue.
Public Works Committee/ October 18, 2016
