Super Bowl, Inc.

F~syor Gary Heit~an and Ramsey City Council
City of Ramsey
15153 Nowthen Blvd ~
~ey, ~ 55~3

I
I
I
I

Ram~ey, NN 55303
December 26, 1985~

hal Estate Taxes
C~rctal

Dear Nr. ltayor:

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

I think it is time something is done regarding the high taxes on
com~rcial buildings in the city of Bamsey. I am sure you are aware
that most of the business people in Ram~ey are very upset with the
tax rate on co~ercial buildings.

l~hen we built the Super Bowl seven years ago, our taxes were $8,000
per year. Since then, they have SToma to ~35,000 which is absurd! I
have done comparisons with other bowling centers in the Twin City
area and in St. Cloud. ! have found the average taxes on a building
the sam as ours is somewhere between ~12,000 and ~15,000; and all of
these places have city services ~ater) sewer, etc). I don~t see
ho~ these high taxer can be Justified. There are no new businesses
coming into l~m~ey and there won*t be with these t~x rates. There
are several vacant businesses that can*t be sold due to the high taxes.
We vets planning an expansion at Super Bowl but have reconsidered;
there is no way we viii expand with this tax burden. The truth is,
if ~e could find a way to move, ~e would. We are exploring the poss-
ibilities[

l~hen we built seven years ago, ~e had a'choice bemen Coon Rapids,
Anoka, and ILamsey. It appears we made the ~rrong choice. At the time
ye made the decision, it appeare~IRamsey ~ould be the most favorable
site but that has certainly changed. Our taxes would only be one-third
of what they are nov if we had chosen one of the other sites, plus we
would have city services. In the next eight years, ye will have paid
more in taxes than it cost to build the original building. Do you call
that being fair to your business comn~znity7

It is time so~e positive action is taken to help business people and
ge t the taxes down to where they should be. The b~siness community
cannot carry the entire tax burden for the city. If it continues in
this direction, there viii be no businesses left and then the entire
tax burden will shift back to the people. Something fair and equitable
has to be worked out soon if we are to survive. We are asking you to
help us get some relief, and if that doesn't work, we will have to
