MEMORANDUM

DATE: May 23, 1986
TO: City Administrator David Hartley
FROM: Public Works Superintendent Merle Mevissen
Re: Water Truck

For the past three (3) months I have been looking for a truck to
replace our present water truck which is getting to be in bad
shape. The tank is beyond repair and the truck is unsafe to
drive due to steering and brake problems. As you recall, this
was a discarded Anoka Park Department truck that was meant to get
us by for a few years, which it has. But now it is time to
replace it.

I have found a few trucks , cab and chassis , but I haven't been
able to find a used tank to put on it and a new tank is beyond
our budget. I did find a truck in Wisconsin with a tank on it
that could be converted to a water truck. It was a milk truck
with a 2600 gallon stainless steel bulk tank which would make a
beautiful water tank.

The truck is a 1980 Ford 8000 with a CAT 3208 diesel engine, air
brakes, 23,000 lb. rear axle, 12,000 lb. front axle and appears
to be in good mechanical condition. The price is $17,000.00,
which is within our budget. The pump from our old truck could be
used on this truck and I think we could do the work ourselves..

I will be at the May 27 Council meeting if there are any
questions.

-1 -
