Chairman Sieber explained that Counci~r Schlueter has served as an election judge in the past and State l~w r~w says that o~uncilmembers can serve as election judges; Ramsey's charter states that oouncilmembers cannot hold any position that was created or received an increase in oompensation during that person's term in office; election judges did receive an increase in oompensation during Councilmember Schlueters term in office and this would eliminate her from serving in this capacity for a nunber of years. (km~ission consensus is that Oouncilmember Schlueter is faced with an unfortunate situation but no amendment to Charter Chapter 2, Section 2.04, Compatible Offices, will be recommended; that this section, as written, protects the citizens against greater abuses. Commissioner Lichter brought up, for discussion, the fact that oouncilmembers cannot serve in any other City position for which compensation is received and inquired as to bow this requirement affects Councilmember Cox's position on the EDC. Chairman Sieber stated that the City Attorney has researched this issue and EDC members receive a per diem wage for expenses incurred which is not considered a profit gaining compensation. Chairman Sieber and Commissioner Lichter agreed that ~ommissions are an advisory body to City Council and it is not necessary for a oouncilmember to serve on both. Motion by Commissioner Lichter and seconded by Commissioner Data to adjourn this meeting of the Ramsey Charter Co~nission. Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Sieber, Cor~issioners Data, Lichter, Bauerkemper and Greenberg. Voting No: None.
