(bmcilme~ber Reimann stated that City Assessor Wirz is busy with assessments but will be ava_~lable for final Oou~cilme~ber Gox inquired as to the definition of Level I and Level II Buildin9 Inspectors and Mr. Wirz' classification. I Mr. Berg stated that Level I is o~rtified to inspect one and ~o f~rily h~es; ~e~,el II is oertified to inspect ali buildings; Mr. Wirz is a Level II. Oouncilme~ber (Dx suggested that it would be more p~udent to hire a Level I Building Inspectof-t~at oould upgrade h/mself; this suggestion is based on the fact that the City already ~as a Level II Inspector on board. I I I I I I I I i I I Gou~cilmember Reimann stated that a Level II would be a more qualified person. Mr. Berg pointed out that the City doesn't even have to have another oertified Building Inspector. O~cil~e~ber Rei~ann stated that a lot of the City's lxobl~ms go back to when the building permit was issued; don't want to put Ramsey in a bad position by hiring an u~qualified person. Motion by Go~cilmember (bx and seoor~d by Go~%cil~ber Reimann to table this case t~ltil the Sept~ber 24, 1985 Oouncil meetin9. Further Discussion: Gouncilm~mber Reimann asked Councilm~mber Sorteberg if he feels the City should prooeed to advertise the position. Q)~cil~ber Gox stated that specifying Level II in the ad will eliminate a lot of good, conscientious, hardworking inspectors frc~ consideration. (1)~lcil~ber Sorteberg stated that the oost between Level II and Lewel I is ~ot that great and feels the City should hire a Level II. Go~lcil~ber Gox stated that the discussion seems to imply that the City will have ~o p~obl~s it a Level II is hired. Motion failed. Voting Yes: Co~ci~r (Dx. Voting No: Mayor Beitman, (1)~ciln~bers Sorteberg, ~_~mann and Schlueter. Motion by Gouncilmember (Dx and seconded by (buncil~e~ber Reimann to authorize the City ~dministrator to advertise for a Building Inspector and not specify the level of Inspector desired. It is directed that the ad be Blaced in the Minneapolis Star and Tribune Sunday ecliti~, the St. Paul Dispatch and Pixar Press Sunday edition ar~ the Anoka Ootmty Union and Shopper.
