FINANCE COMMITTEE <br />CITY OF RAMSEY <br />ANOKA COUNTY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />The Ramscy Finance Committee conducted a regular meeting on Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at the <br />Ramsey Fire Station Nmnber 1, 15050 Armstrong Boulevard NW, Ramsey, Minnesota. <br /> <br />Members Prcsent: <br /> <br />Chairperson David Elvig <br />Councilmember Sarah Strommen <br />Councilmember Gerald Zimmerman <br /> <br />Also Present: <br /> <br />City Administrator James E. Norman <br />Finance Officer Diana Lund <br />Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Dean Kapler <br />Police Captain Tim Dwyer <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Chairperson Elvig called the regular meeting of the Finance Committee to order at 5:12 p.m. <br /> <br />CITIZEN INPUT <br /> <br />T]lcre was nol]e. <br /> <br />COMMITTEE BUSINESS <br /> <br />Case #1: Request for Authorization for a One Year Extension to the Residential <br /> Curbside Recycling Contract with Ace Solid Waste, Inc. <br /> <br />Finance O/'ficcr Lund stated in January 2002, the City entered into a three year contract with Ace <br />Solid Waste, lnc. for the curbside collection of residential recycling. She noted the contract <br />included an option for a one year extension and the current three year contract with Ace Solid <br />Waste, Inc. is set to expire on December 31, 2004. She explained that state statute does not <br />require thc City to obtain competitive proposals since it is a contracted service. Finance Officer <br />Lund stated that Ace is interested in extending the contract for an additional year at the current <br />rate orS1.88 per residence per month. She noted that Ace has been an integral part of the City's <br />biannual recycling day events and Ace currently provides an annual donation to the City of <br />approximately $2,000. <br /> <br />Councihncmber Zimmerman inquired if there are other companies available to provide curbside <br />recycling services. <br /> <br />Finance Officer Lund replied in the affirmative, noting that the City would be required to obtain <br />quotes fi'om recycling haulers licensed in the City through an RFP process. <br /> <br />Finance Committee/July 13, 2004 <br /> Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />
