Voting Yes: Mayor Gamec, Oouncilmegbers Sorteberg, Reimann, $chlueter and Van Wagner. Vot/ng No: None. Motion by Councilmember Van Wagner and seoonded by Councilmember Reimann to adopt Ordinance ~84-17 which is an ordinance amending Section 210.01.5 of the Ramsey City Oode. ~his ordinance is to be published in the Anoka County Union and will take effect 30 days after the date of publication. (Please refer to ordinance file for Ordinance ~84-17). Mayor Gamec called for a roll call vote. Councilmember Sorteberg - Aye Councilemmber Van Wagner - Aye Mayor Gamec - Aye Councilme~ber Reimann - Aye Oouncilmember Scblueter - Aye Motion carried. 3. (continued discussion regarding hiring Mr. James Way at a starting salary of 79% of top p~trol p~y). Councilmember Van Wagner read certain portions of the police contract and stated that if Ramsey hires patrolmen, they are covered under this contract and deviating from the oontract would require the City to come up with a new classification and submit it to the bureau of mediation. Councilmember Van Wagner stated that the oontract also includes a 1 year probationary period. Gouncilm~r Van Wagner stated that the contract also says that wages payable for a patrolman the first year of employment is $22,145.00 Councilmember Reimann noted that according to Mr. Way's application, he is not licensed. Chief Auspos stated that part of the criteria for obtaining licenses, is naming place of employment; patrolmen must be employed to qualify for licenses. Chief Auspos stated that 79% of top patrol pay is the m~nimum wage the City can use for hiring purposes. December 18, 1984 Page 7 of 21
