Encourage cosponsorship of forums on regional issues. <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE <br /> <br />Enhance opportunities for input by public interest groups <br />(e.g., Citizens League, League of Women Voters, Government <br />Training Service, Humphrey Institute) in setting regional <br />policies and solving regional problems. <br /> <br />STRATEGIES: <br /> <br />1. Encourage cosponsorship of forums on regional issues to provide an <br /> opportunity for objective discussion of regional issues. <br /> <br />2. Foster support for the Council's budget and legislative program by <br /> allowing public interest groups to co~nent during the development <br /> ofthese items. <br /> <br />3. Continue to keep public interest groups abreast of Council <br /> activities, and provide them with ample time to conment on the <br /> Council°s proposed plans and policies. <br /> <br />IPI~LE~NTATION AND EVALUATION <br /> <br />IMPLEMENTATION <br /> <br />The primary responsiblity for implementation of the Citizen <br />Participation Plan lies with the staff of individual Council <br />programs. In addition, a citizen participation coordinator will <br />coordinate the citizen participation activities of individual <br />departments and assist in those activities as needed. <br /> <br />In terms of implementation, there are several components of the <br />Citizen Participation Plan. They include (but are not limited to) <br />the following: <br /> <br />1. A citizen participation element in each program's annual work <br /> plan and budget. <br /> <br />2. Public hearings. <br /> <br />3. Public meetings, forums, "state of the region." <br /> <br />10 <br /> <br /> <br />
