17320 Driscol St. N. W.
~amsey, MN 55303

i Lloyd Schnelle & City Council ~.' .,
City Hall of Ramsey ~
15153 Nowthen Blvd. N.W. ~
Ramsey, MN 55303
I Dear Mr. Schnelle: .

o We purchased the property at 17320 Driscol St. N. W.,
I Ramoey,=MN in December, 198~. We asked if there were'
problem~ with the property and house such as.the water,
~ater in the basement, septic system, etc. ~e were told there
I were no problems. January we up in the
In
had
water
backed
basement and toliets. We had the tanks pumped and were informed
that the system was inadequate for the house and should have
I a lift station due to the depth of the cesspool plus 5~0 feet
of drainfield or else we would have to have the tanks pumped
every couple weeks. This was based on a family of four
I using showers, washing clothes, and dishes plus recycling the
wate~ softener. -

We checked around and decided to hire Leo Deschenes, then
I discovered the cost of the $1200.00),
plus
job
(approximately
we had to pa~ an extra $50.00 for a permit, ano also
discovered t~at surrounding communities cha~ged from $10.00
I to $15.00. Why is Ramsey so high? Why dia we get penalized
for having to put in a drainfield when we thought everything
was in good working order? We did not even have any recourse
I on getting the owners to pay for this job--something that
was not our fault or for the building codes that were in
effect at the time the house was constructed. I understand
codes since have been updated, which is goom, but why should
I new owners unaware charged permit fees
of
hidden
faults
be
for something that is now a requirement in new home construction
in the area.
I Is there any reason you ~uld not reimburse the permit fee
paid for the drainfield since we have brought the septic
I system up to your codes at our own expense? It is still an
age of caveat emptor!

Sincerely yours,
I
/ Rodney J. Caouette
