CITY OF RA~ME¥ <br /> <br />LANDFILL ABATEMENT I~kN - 0CI~ER, 1985 <br /> <br />Landfill Abatement Plan <br /> <br />~e City of Ra~sey is proposing a landfill abatenrent plan that <br />involves souroe separation of certain residential refuse and the <br />collection of certain recyclable materials. The City is <br />proposing to operate a oentral drop-off site for the collection of <br />glass containers in addition to existing drop-off sites for <br />the oollection of other materials. The City is also proposing to <br />pro, rote the existing drop-off sites operated by local civic <br />organizations for other recyclable residential waste materials. <br /> <br />The Ramsey Landfill Ad Roc Committee (appointed by the Ra]rsey <br />City Oouncil) is pursuing information regarding the establishment <br />of: a city-wide composting site for yard wastes; a hazardous <br />household waste collection facility; education; curb-side pick- <br />up; c~runity clean-up days; and a used oil collection facility <br />for inclusion in the comprehensive city-wide abate~rent program. <br />The Landfill Ad ~oc Co~Fittee is also looking into the <br />possibility of hiring a consultant to assist in the formulation <br />and implementation of a comprehensive city-wide recycling <br />prograro ! <br /> <br />_~_ of Recy_clin~ <br /> <br />The City is proposing to begin collection of recyclable glass <br />containers fro~ residential refuse including green, brown, and <br />clear containers. Also, presently operating drop-off sites <br />will accept residential news~per and al~m'inur and ferrous scrap. <br /> <br />Location of' Drop-off Sites <br /> <br />~he City's drop-off site for glass containers would be located in <br />the parking lot of the Ra~sey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen <br />Boulevard N.W. Glass would be dropped off at certain times when <br />the site would be monitored; proposed ti~es are two Saturdays <br />a xonth frc~ April through October and one Saturday a month fro~ <br />November through March. The site would be monitored by a <br />participating Ra~sey youth organization (a local 4-~ group has <br />expressed interest in this). Other drop-off sites include a <br />Jaycee-operated drop-off site for newspaper, al~rinu~ and ferrous <br />scraps at the Landfill (this is a fairly new project; until the <br />Landfill sees what kind of participation it gets, it is hesitant <br />to expand the scope of waterials oollected); a Boy Scout-operated <br />drop-off site for newspaper at a local grocery store; and an <br />Anoka School Band-operated drop-off site for newspapers at the <br />Anoka (bunty Fairgrounds. <br /> <br />-1- <br /> <br /> <br />
