Through the program, Metropolitan Area cities and <br />townships will be reimbursed for qualifying landfill abatement and resource <br />recovery expenses. Solid waste abatement and resource~ecovery activities <br />reduce the dependence on landfills for the disposal of/solid waste or involve <br />the reclamation for sale, use or reuse of materials, ~ubstances, energy or <br />other products contained in or derived from waste. <br /> <br />Funds for the program come from a surcharge~mi.xed.-municipal solid waste <br />deposited in landfills. A maximum .of 50't'en~slpe~. household will be available <br />to each community for qualifying solid waste .abatement and r~spurce recovery <br />activities. A certification letter and documentation of eligible expenses can <br />be submitted to the Council starting Dec. 2, 1985. Applications will be taken <br />until 5 p.m. on Jan. 15, 1986. Payments will be made by Jan. 31, 1986. <br /> <br />Landfill abatement or resource recovery programs or activities you undertake <br />must be included in your county's solid waste master plan or approved by the <br />Council. These include, but are not limited to, leaf and yard waste compost- <br />lng, curbside or alley collection of recyclables, drop-off recycling centers, <br />office paper recycling and processing centers for recyclables. <br /> <br />An information meeting to answer questions about the Landfill Abatement Cost <br />Recovery Program guidelines will be held Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1985, at 9 a.m. in <br />the Metropolitan Council Chambers.
