ge 7

Public Hearing/7-10-78
(Street Petitions)

Councilman Gamec stated that according to the new assessment policy it
would only be funding 1/2 of the cost.

Engineer Raatikka added that the residents would have to pay for the regular
City street but MSA funds pay to bring it up to MSA standards.

Bruce Hoeke, 15901 Sodium St., said he moved out here to be in the country
an8 blacktop streets would ruin that. If people drive 1 5 NA~H, they won't
have any problem.

Roger Thompson, 15951 Radium St., asked what type of road the City is putting
in on Variolite Street.

Mayor Cox repl%ed that they don't know at this time, but it will be designed
to hold 9-ton traffic.

Roger Thompson said that is a much higher-quality road, being in the contracting
business, we put in more blacktop in driveways than they are proposing for
these streets.

A resident in the audience stated she just received the letter of the hearing
today and asked how people will be notified so they get the facts.

Attorney Goodrich responded that if there is enough interest in the projects
tonight, a feasibility study will be ordered, which will be in more detail
with more accurate information and ten days prior to the final hearing
another written notice will be sent out.

A letter was received fromPaster and }~s. Lee stating they are in favor
of blacktop streets and wider streets.

A letter was received from Roland and Susan Riveness asking if there will
be increased police protection to lower the speeds of children on mini-bikes.
A new blacktop road in the area will be like a dragstrip and they ask for
police to control mini-bikes.

Terry M~veus said he shares the same concern, not only with mini-bikes but
also automobiles, he is concerned with taxes going up, a ten-year investment
down the drain before the roads are removed, the difference in technical
judgement here tonight on these roads and he votes against the project.

Nancy Jensen, 151st Ave., asked what is on the roads now? Why isn't
something put on these roads to prevent them from becoming so washboardy.

Mayor Cox replied that they were of minimumrequirements that were in this
community before so that they don't meet standards to hold up under traffic
and weather conditions have a bearing on this.

Nancy Jensen aske% why isn't Class 5 replaced from time to time?

Mayor Cox stated that the street department is constantly upgrading the
streets in this community.
