City of Ramsey

15153 Nowthen BoulevardN.W., Anoka, Minnesota 55303 · (612~ 427-1410

POLICE DEPARTMENT

January 28, 1979

To: City Council
From: Chief Auspos
Re: Hand-held Radio

In 1978 I submitted to Anoka County Central Communications, at the
request of Harry Hillegas, then director of that agency, a list of
radio equipment requirements for 1979. In that list I asked for
two hand-held radios with charger units to add to!.the one unit as-
signed previously to Ramsey. I asked for two in the hope that at
least one of them would be approved. Earlier this month, after the
board approved the county budget, I checked with Central Communica-
tions and found that my request was scratched off and the five units
to be purchased this year are assigned to other cities.

I contacted Undersheriff Don Dwyer, acting director of Central Com~
munications, ~6'~qu~e about this and'was advised that a committee
of the Joint Law Enforcement Council had decided who would get the
equipment. He further advised that any appeal to this decision
would have to be directed to the Joint Council. I did this (see
attached letter) and was told after that body met that their deci-
sion was to hold to the original findings of the Operations Commit-
tee and that the Ramsey police would no receive another hand-held
radio.

It is my contention that the Ramsey Police department is entitled
to at least one additional radio/charger unit since the original
