City of Ramsey

15153 Nowthen BoulevardN.W., Anoka, Minnesota 55303 · (612)427-1410

POLICE DEPARTMENT

policy statement, as I understand it to be, states in part that dis-
tribution will be; one hand-held radio]~for each marked unit used ex-
clusively for law enforcement. We presently have three marked patrol
vehicles used exclusively for law enforcement purposes, two of them
being used concurrently on the night shift.

I have attempted to determine the present assignment of radios to each
community but the invoices and records at the courthouse are not filed
in such a manner as to allow retrieval by index and I would have to
go through every piece of paper in several folders. If it becomes :
necessary I can do this but I would like to get something going for
now as we need that radio. I believe that at least four or five units
and chargers have been assigned to each of the five larger communities
and the Sheriff's office.

I am requesting that the City Council address an inquiry to Mr. Ed.
Fields, our representative on the Joint Law Enforcement Council, ask-
ing he review the decision made by the Operations Committee and to de-
termine their rationale for that decision. Also I think we should be
made aware of the policies which control such assignments of radio
quipment, the present distribution of county/grant purchased equip-
ment and, in general, how this community can become more involved in
the Joint Law Enforcement Council and its decision making process.
