W. <br />Anoka, Minnesota 55303 <br /> <br />Re: Proposed Extension of 160th Lane N.W. <br /> to C.S.A.H. #§ <br /> <br />Dear Council Members: <br /> <br />As requested at your April 9, 1979 council meeting we have reviewed the possibility <br />of extending 160th Lane N.W. from Hall -.Anderson Acres westerly to C.S.A.H. #5. <br />Based on a site inspection, the Anoka County Soils and the U.S. Geological Survey <br />Topographic Map it would appear that the street could be extended to C.S.A.H. #5 <br />as shown on the attached exhibit. . <br /> <br />The Anoka County Soil Survey indicates that the low lands consist 'of organic material <br />approximately 2 to 3 feet in depth underlain with fine sand. The Anoka County 'Soil <br />Survey .also indicates that the length~Of the' proposed~roadway underlain by poor '. <br />soils is approximately 400 feet. Therefore, realigning the street to-the north would- <br />not be feasible since the area north is wooded and the crossing of. organic material <br />would not be substantially· reduced. F, urthermore, if 160th Lane N.W. is to be utilized <br />as a thoroughfare between S. T. H. #47 and C.S.A.H. #5 realignment to the north would <br />not promote good traffic flow. <br /> <br />In reviewing the feasibility of constructing 160th Lane N.W. to C.S.A.H.#5, it does not <br />appear feasible to construct the road for the sole purpose of accommodating residential <br />development since much of the abutting property is Undevelopable. However~ construction <br />of 160th Lane N.W. as a thoroughfare would appear to be feasible. <br /> <br />~ince a thoroughfare study fo~ the city has not be~n ~ompleted, the need for a east- <br />west thoroughfare in this area has not been establi'shed. Therefore, this portion of ._ <br />roadway was deleted from the MSAS system last December to provide adequate mileage to- <br />add 153rd Avenue N.W. from C.S.A.H. #5 to Variolite Street N.W. to the MSAS system.. <br /> <br />keith caswell jr.
