DEPT,

OFF

COMPLAINANT.

ADDRESS

ADDITIONAL DETAILS OF OFFENSE. PROGRESS OF INVESTIGATIONS. ETC.

9-21-79

Lloyd:

Received a call today from Steve Patchet of the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension
concerning the Criminal Justice Information System. The state of Minnesota has
funded for distribution of Computer Terminals and Printers for Cities of 7,500 and
over with organized police departments.
He asked if our city would be interested in such and I, after hearing what is entailed,
agreed that we would take one on condition that if you and/or the council did not
want to do so I would let him know by next' Friday; 9-28.
There would be an initial installation fee of approximately $150.00 andthat wou~d be
it. The city would have to enter into a contract with the state concerning the re-
quirements of use of the terminal. The only other cost would be if by chance the
funding would run short during a year, the city wou~d have to pick up the' cost over-
run along with other cities. This cost might be $0 to 75 do]_lar$ a month, but since
the systmm has been &n line ( 5 yearS) this has not happened. Normal rate for the
terminal is 350.00 dollars per months
This terminal would allow us t o have access to all state criminal records, data in-
put, wanted notices' and criminal justice storage information. We could enter all
our stolen property, autos, runaways, etc. We could also directly enter all types of
incidents for statistical purposes whereas we now do so manually (by mail). We can
use the system for bicycle registration and for stolen bicycles. The eystem will be
expmnding for other storage purposes and I feel we should get on it at this time
considering the .cost.
If we agree t o the terminal the installation would be sometime in the middle of
~ December or by January 1.
Maintenance of the system is paid by the state on a 2& hr. or 8 hr. plan depending on
which contract we desire. The 8 hr. plan is cheaper for the state and would certainly
suit our needs. BaSically this means that if the terminal has trouble at 0200 hours
the repair people would come out in the morning. The 2& hour contract would hav~ them
respond immediately. If you have further questions, Patchet's number is 296-2252 or
if hets not there ask for Don Love. MGA

THIS OFFENSE IS D~LARED:

Unfounded

Cleared by A~rest

Exceptionally Cleared

Inactive (Not Cleared)

SIGNED DATE

Investigating Officer

SIGNED DATF

Chlef or C~mmanding Officer

Thls Form Is Used by Officer Ass;geed to · Ca~e to Report Progress After Three and Seven Days and Weekly Thereafter, Also to Report Significant Developments.
