Motion by Councilmember Cox and seconded by Commissioner Fults that in light
of a meeting with Senator Boschwitz's aid, Mr. Tom Mereckel, and the explanation
of possible discretionary funds for certain projects to create jobs, the
Ramsey EDC encourages City Council to forward letters to Senator Boschwitz's
aids, in cooperation with the County of Anoka and other entities involved, to
pursue the funding for the bridge crossing across the Rum River (County Road
#116) and urge funds be sought after for that development and further to list
all advantages and needs for the City of Ramsey and the surrounding area.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Chairman Greenberg, CommiSsioners Cox, Fults, Guy
and Miller. Voting No: None. Absent: Commissioners Schneider, Muller,
Schmidt and Sentyrz.

Commissioner Cox stated that it would be good for the EDC to send letters to
all businessmen in Ramsey and urge that they use the name of Ramsey wherever
possible and this in turn would encourage the citizenry to use the name of
Ramsey which would appear on documents that persuade taxing revenues back
to the community.

Motion by Councilmember Cox to request City Council pursue all areas of
promoting the City of Ramsey.

Further Discussion: Chairman Greenberg stated that EDC haS~to d~a selling
job through merchants and Council is not the Place for it. Commissioner Cox
replied that Council's job is to sell the City. Commissioner Cox also noted
that business wise, he is better off designating Anoka as his location in his
ads and he is laying his dollars on the line by noting his location as Ramsey.

Commissioner Fults seconded the motion for further discussion. There was no
further discussion.

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Commissioners Guy, Fults, Cox and Miller. Voting
No: None. Abstain: Chairman Greenberg. Absent: Commissioners Schneider,
Schmidt, Muller and Sentyrz.

Commissioner Cox stated that people are working to develop a park on the Raudio
property and that he has received a letter from Waste Management stating that
they will donate the construction of road, turn lanes and excavate the lower
area for ball fields. The City Engineer is donating engineering of the project.
There will be no tax dollars involved in the development of this park, other
than maintenance once the park is completed. The contribution from Waste
Management is valued at $20,000-$40,000.

Mr. Schnelle stated that a letter noting the donation should be sent to Waste
Management which they could use for tax deduction purposes.

Commissioner Cox stated that Waste Management really doesn't want a letter
for that purpose, that their gift could then be interpreted as a motive for
a tax deduction.

Mr. Schnelle stated that the EDC Legislative Committee should review the
results of the last legislative session.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Commissioner Miller and seconded by Commissioner Cox to adjourn the
regular meeting of the Economic Development Commission.

EDC/August 10, 1983
