Case #3: Gateway North Industrial Airport:

Chairman Greenberg informed the Commission that Gateway North, a privately
owned public airport, will have to close soon if they don't get help plowing
snow this winter. They are requesting that the City of Ramsey plow the runways.
He stated that this airport is used more than people realize. 'There are approxi-
mately 15 to 18 flights per day and they are not all local flights. The airport
has also been used in many emergency situations.

Mayor Gamec stated that we would need to work out a lease and that it probably
wouldn't cost too much if the City were to plow the runways this winter.

Commissioner Fults said that if the airport were to close, we would be losing
an airport that has served us a number of years,~ an airport that ~any Ramsey and
Anoka businesses have learned to depend on. He stated that many businesses
built in that vicinity Simply because the airport was there.

Chairman Greenberg added that the size of the airport wouldn't be changed, we
just would like to keep the airport in operation.

Councilwoman-elect Jean Schlueter questioned if the City will be purchasing the
airport and how it would change hands.

Chairman Greenberg stated that the airport would be municipally operated on a
long term lease. He also added how much Anoka Vo-Tech's program would be hurt
if the airport were to close.

Motion by Commissioner Menkveld and seconded by Commissioner Muller stating that
the Economic Development Commission is in favor of the City of Ramsey providing
minor maintenance on an .emergency basis to the Gateway North Airport this ~wi~ter
and that the City work with the airport in eventually turning it into a municipal
airport.

Motion carried. Voting yes: Commissioners Menkveld, Muller, Greenberg, Fults,
Schmidt, Sentryz and Miller, Voting no: None.

ADJOURNMENT

Chairman Greenberg stated that the next'meeting of the Economic Development
Commission is on Wednesday, December 8, 1982.

Motion by Commissioner Miller and seconded by Commissioner Fults to adjourn the
meeting.

Motion carried.
