Don Greenberg also reported on a meeting with a representative of
Burlington Northern. This gentleman is looking for a 15 acre site
with utilities for a plant expected to employ 300. Tom Gamec reported
there are many committments for sewer to be, realistically at the City
line by late 1982 or 1983. The City will soon be planning their sewer
lines to com~ect with this Metro line.

8:15 P.M. Ron West arrived.

A discussion followed as to how firm the sewer getting here is~ Arnold
Cox, Don Greenberg, A1 Sorteberg and A1 Bullick indicated they will try
to have the Coumcil express its feelings on this issue. Also~ they will
'try and have hearings and whatever is necessary to make a moral eommitt-
ment to a prospective employer as to sewer availability.

The housing committee letter from Joe Sentryz, Chairman, regarding
their proposals include:

-- Reduced home minimum sizes
-- No garage required
-- Allow double homes on 20% of the lots in a development

Dick Carson made comments on the current housing market, moderate in-
come housing, what other cities are doing, garages, etc.

Dick Carson, Tom Gamec and Steve Schmidt discussed whether this was a
City wide proposal or just for new development.

It was further pointed out that whereas we are looking for industry,
we are keeping out the prospective workers with too large lot sizes.

Motion by Jack Menkveld and seconded by Mike Kovar that the City Council
be petitioned to enact an ordinance which would allow the building of
homes of reduced size and without garages, as proposed in the Housing
group of the Economic Development Committee's letter to the Mayor and
City Council.

Motion carried. All voted yes.

A discussion then ensued with regard to another portion of the proposal
contained in the above mentioned letter regarding zero lot line and
twin home development.

Motion by Roger Meyer and seconded by Dick Carson asking the Co~cil to
allow twin home and zero lot line building in our City.

Motion carried. Ail voted yes.

A considerable discussion as to the many types of housing innovations
being seen.

E.D.C.
May 8, 1980
Page 2
