Police Chief Way replied approximately $12,000.

Councihncmber Kurak stated that the City could get a decent used car for $12,000.

Police Chief Way agreed. He stated that the cost of keeping the old police vehicles on the road is
very expensive.

Mayor Gamcc stated that he could not see replacing all of the City vehicles in one year. He
would anticipate that it would be something they would have to do over a few years.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson replied that it would definitely be something that would
bavc to be phased in.

Consensus of the City Council was to further research the feasibility of purchasing used cars over
a phased period of time for City staff use rather than continuing to utilize old police cars.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler reviewed equipment needs for the Fire Department,
which included a back-up power supply for Fire Station I.

Counci lmembcr Pearson inquired if the City currently had a back-up power supply in Fire Station
I.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied no.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson noted that there is no back up power at the City Hall or the
Police Department either.

Police Chief Way stated that it makes the most sense to place the back up power source in Fire
Station I because the building will be around for a long time and the current Police Department
and City Hall will probably be relocated.

Counci hnember Kurak stated that the purchase of a back up power source is very important.

Director of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler reviewed the Public Works equipment needs.

Assistant City Administrator Nelson explained that the City is going to have to upgrade the
election booths due to a change in federal law. Staff is hopeful that they will be receiving federal
funding to upgrade the booths and will keep the City Council posted with any new updates.

City Council Work Session/August 2, 2004
