The City Council agreed that the City Administrator and City Attorney should handle all further <br />conlllltlnication. <br /> <br />4) 2005 Budget <br /> <br />Dircctor of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler reviewed the 2005 facility needs at Public Works, <br />which included the use of a temporary building for office space. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamec inquired as to what the cost would be for the temporary building. <br /> <br />Dircctor of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler replied that it would cost $35,000 to purchase the <br />temporary building. He explained that they were advised that if the City were looking for a long- <br />term usc it would be more cost effective to purchase the building rather than leasing it. <br /> <br />Councihncmber Kurak suggested the possibility of utilizing one of the metal structures on one of <br />the properties the City is currently negotiating to acquire. <br /> <br />Staff was not sure that was a feasible option. <br /> <br />Mayor Gamcc stated that he wants to make sure that they are ahead of the game as Town Center <br />develops so that they can handle the demands. <br /> <br />Councihnember Strommen requested verification that they were talking about upgrading the <br />existing building as well as adding the temporary building to accommodate the upcoming <br />demands. <br /> <br />Dircctor of Public Works/Fire Chief Kapler explained that there are two needs: one is the need <br />for additional storage space and the other is the need for additional administrative space. The <br />cost to fill both of those needs would be about $210,000. <br /> <br />Assistant City Administrator Nelson reviewed the current policy regarding fleet vehicles. She <br />explained that the City currently utilizes old police cars for staff cars, but they have a high <br />maintenance cost and are not very reliable. At this time staff was looking for general policy <br />direction if the City Council would like to continue utilizing old police vehicles for staff use or <br />should they begin purchasing new or lease return vehicles with low miles that wouldn't require <br />so much maintenance. <br /> <br />Councilmcmber Kurak inquired as to what would be done with the old police cars. <br /> <br />Police Chief Way explained that they could continue to utilize them in Police administration and <br />investigation and then after that they would go to auction or they could send them to action after <br />they arc retired fi'om patrol use. <br /> <br />Councihnember Kurak inquired as to what the City would receive from the sale of one of the <br />police cars after two years of use. <br /> <br />City Council Work Session/August 2, 2004 <br /> Page 5 of 7 <br /> <br /> <br />
