I
I
!
i
I
I

I
I
I
I
!
!
I

A substantial part of Ramsey Township falls into the first soils c.ategory; the
increasing popularity of the area for builders reflects" its general suitability for
inexpensive iow density development,. Developmental patterns along either side
of Ramsey Blvd. now occupy a great deal of availableland, although more building
areas still do exist, both in the easternmost areas of the~ township along the Rum
River, and west of Variolite Ave., exceptin~ some marshy areas around lakes Itasca
and Eddy. There are many smaller areas throughout th-e township which are also
suitable for construction purposes; they lie generally along~the h]gh~r ground on
either side Of Trott Brook and along 'Highways 10'and 52.

Much of the land along Trott Brook, the Rum River and the Mississippi River is
severaly, limited for urban, purposes, and adjacent lands often have partial-limita~
tions as well. A large land area in the northernmost part of the township:, stretching
both east and west from C.S.A.H. 5, is also mostly unusable land, althoug.h some
moderately limited areas are interspersed. Scattered lowland areas throughout-the
township are designated as .poor building areas, such .as the areas around lakes
Itasca and Eddy.

Drainaqe & Wetlands

The plate called Water & Wetland Features indicates wetland areas in addition to
the directional flow of water and the drainage divides in Ramsey township. In
general, marshy areas are associated with the river and stream beds through which
most drainage occurs.

The drainage divides roughly separate-the township into thi~rds, although the central
wedge - shaped area which opens eastward covers considerably less land area than
the other sections to the north and south. The northern third of the township drains
into Trott Brook which in turn flows eastward and -empties into.the-Rum River. The
central wedge-shaped portion of the t'ownship aiso~ drains east into the Rum River,
which itself empties into the Mississippi River to the south. The southern third of
the township drains southward directly into, the Mississippi River. The township
is generally very well drained, which again is reflected in its~ popularity for
inexpensive suburban development. -
