II. Community Facilities <br /> <br />Community Parks: <br />a. Provide active and passive recreation for the residents <br /> of a town. <br />b. One acre per four hundred population of the city. <br /> <br />Co <br /> <br />Provides recreation area for all age groups, suited for <br />outings, picnics, informal play areas, athletic recrea- <br />tion and provides scenic quality. <br /> <br />Athletic Field: <br />a. To accommodate common community sports competition. <br /> Where possible, should augment secondary school facil- <br /> ities. <br />b. One acre per 800 population served. Minimum size 25-40 <br /> acres. <br />c. Located approximately four miles from any home within <br /> the city. <br />d. Designed for active athletic recreation. Includes: <br /> baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, hockey and open <br /> skating, etc. <br /> <br />Community Center: <br />a. To provide for indoor recreation (e.g. hobbies, crafts, <br /> dancing, etc.). <br />b. One per community -- not needed where other public agen- <br /> cies provide a facility (e.g. YMCA). <br />c. Located at or near community park or centrally located <br /> within the city. Could be developed in conjunction with <br /> secondary school or other public facilities. <br />d. Designed primarily for teens and senior citizens for <br /> organized recreation. <br /> <br />The combination of community and neighborhood facilities should provide <br />for the passive and active recreation needs of a community. It should <br />be so located within the community so as to provide for maximum efficiency <br />in gaining access to the areas by any one person. <br /> <br />- 11 - <br /> <br /> <br />
