Ford Brook Park is a relately flat area of 3.6 acres, of which
approximately one acre is usable for its playground purpose. In
the immediate area are the Riverwood I and 2 parks, which make up
the difference for the population served. Access is by 180th
Avenue N.W. only. At the present time, this does not pose a
problem; however, as development occurs around the park, a lack
of access and safe buffers to surrounding residents will pose
a problem. In addition, the park will become an isolated area
of the neighborhood. One alternative to avoid this problem would
be expansion of the park eastward to Erkium Street. This would
allow better access to the park, become safer for surrounding
residents, and it would allow for more park development.

Site #2, Riverwood 1

A flat and sandy area of 1.5 acres, it is only partiall.v developed
with a sandlot backstop. Consideration should be qiven to devel-
oDinq this area more, with possibly double tennis courts and
a landscaped rest area. Access to the park is fairly good, wth
two ends of the area extendin~ to Erkium and Fluorine Streets,
which both extend to County Road 7. Because of its situation
to the surrounding area, no expansion is needed. Like Fo.rd Brook,
the area is too small to support the population served, but with
Riverwood 2 and Ford Brook in the immediate area the problem
is qreatl¥ eased. It should be recommended, too, that the high-
power transmission lines (passin~ over the park) be put under-
ground for optimum safety.

Site #3, Riverwood 2

This park is a ling and narrow park of 2.7 acres, extending to
the Rum River. It has not been developed and will possibly never
be developed. The area is marked by a steep bank on the west and
a surface drainage marsh and river backwater marsh on the east.
A small trail winds throuqh the middle of the two sides to
approximately halfway down to the river. Access to the park is
verv poor, with only a small strip of land at the north end of
the park from 177th Avenue N.W. open to an already isolated area
that does not lend itself to development beyond the point of clearing
some brush.

Site #4, Brookview

Broken up into two different areas, this is a delightful park
of 3.3 acres along the Rum River. The park has been developed
with picnic tables, grills and some playground equipment. This
park serves as a rest stop for canoeists and has served as a
launching point for some canoers and kayakers. The heavilv

-14-
