Ramsey Elementary - also A-7

This 47-acre school site serves as the only recreation area in the
city. Currently it consists of two skating rinks (1 hockey rink),
warming house, softball field and large playground. It is proposed
that a comprehensive plan of this site be made before any expansion
of recreation facilities. Also proposed is a 3/4 mile all purpose
trail following a drainage ditch south from the southwest corner of
the Ramsey Elementary site, to a large drainage pond. Also proposed
is a 45 acre addition from the mouth of the ditch, around the pond,
where it would be linked with the now existing Ramsey Terrace Park.
The two additions (45 acre site and the trail corridor...lO0' minimum
each side), it is felt, would greatly enhance this urban planning
district that can expect a maxiumum population of 5,000 people. Ramsey
Terrace would function as a passive area, while Ramsey Elementary
would function as an active area. The corridor and 45-acre site would
function as an intermediate area, or transition area, containing both
active (running trails) and passive (picnicking) activities. The
two areas under proposal should be thought of as one that contains
existing trails, is heavily wooded, contains a variety of wildlife,
and is located centrally in the planned urban district where the
heaviest city growth will occur. As development occurs in the urban
district, parking and roads (for access and buffers) can be developed.

Other acquisitions

Titterud Property - A-8

This is a 7.17 acre site located between Ramsey Boulevard on the east
and Jaspar Street N.W. on the west. Because this site is located
with good access, and because the site borders neighborhoods 14-16-
20, it is believed this site will function well as a park for these
neighborhoods where there currently is no site for these persons.

Variolite/Trott Brook - A-9

This area has been proposed as a 30-40 acre recreation site located
centrally in the city on the east side of Variolite Street and border-
ing the south side of Trott Brook. This area is quite beautiful and
natural, and it could also support a large recreation and passive
area. In the event the 160-acre landfill is not converted into a
community park, it is proposed that up to 90 acres be acquired in
this area to function as a community park. It has the advantages
of being centrally located, adjoining Trott Brook, and being very
beautifully natural.

- 24 -
