WORKSHOP MEETING
CITY OF RAMSEY PLANNING & ZONING
CITY OF RAMSEY
ANOKA COUNTY
STATE OF MINNESOTA

The Ramsey Planning & Zoning Commission held a Workshop Session on September
18, 1979, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W. Ramsey,
Minnesota 55303

M~mbe rs Present:

Chairman Ken Peterson
Ben Deemer
John Hubbard
Ron West
Gerald Zimmerman

Also Present:

Dexter Marston,
Planning Consultant

Chairman Peterson called the Workshop to order at 6:58 P.M.

Chairman Peterson qustioned that if the fitures for Housing, under Item No. I,
Existing Condition% were so far off on multiple housing, how accurate are the
other figures that are listed.

Mr. Marston said there is no way of checking the accuracy of the figures other
than going out and taking a count themselves. He noted that his response to
Existing Conditions states that we do not accept the information given on
multi-family housing units.

The Commission expressed concern as to what these figures, are used for.

Mr. Marston ~tated that he feels the figures are relatively close in accuracy
and that in terms of the planning process they are not that important, that
the planning process anticipates future growth and plans for utilities etc.,
for that future growth. He agreed that the figures are important for things
like State Aids but not so important for planning processes.

Ben Deemer feels that errors in these figures on people per unit have a domino
effect and somewhere down the line he anticipates this information may be shoved
do~] the City's throat.

Chairman Peterson questioned if the 1980 census would clear up some of this
discrepancy.

Mr. Marston replied that it would, however, it may hot be available until 1982.

Ron West questioned what the Metro Council's feeling is on ha~ng multi-family
dwelling units where there is no public sewer.

Mr. Marston replied that they are not in favor of it,~that there is a difference
between what the City has now and what it shoUld plan to have when sewer is
available, or what will be in ten to 20 years from now, they want the City to
look at the future.

P & Z WORK sESsION
9/18/79 - Page I
