COUNTY OF ANOKA

COURT HOUSE ANOKA, MINNESOTA 55303 612-421-Z~760

January 16, 1980

The Honorable Tom Gamec
Mayor, City of Ramsey
5810 Neon Street N.W.
Anoka, Minnesota 55303

Dear Mayor Gamec:

The Anoka County Board of Commissioners, at their most recent
meeting on January 8, 1980, by way of attached resolution, established
a policy on the Solid Waste/Resource Recovery Districting proposal
in the metropolitan area. Since the responsibility for solid
waste regulation disposal as prescribed'by Minnesota S~atutes
Section 473.802 is the primary responsibility of counties, the
Anoka County Board is currently involved in a planning effort to
determine the most suitable method of regulating and disposing of
solid waste for the future.

It's a consensus of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners that
a districting approach to so~id waste management for the resource
recovery system in this metropolitan area is essential. The
Board, consequently, has requested that the Legislative Delegation
support a bill providing for resource recovery districts in
accordance ~ith the provisions'contained in Resolution #80-5.

Solid'waste in the metropolitan area is a problem which we all
face. The Anoka County Board feels that adoption of a bill
including the provisions previously referenced will do much to
help alleviate %he situation. It is essential that all the
cities and townships work very closely in the metropolitan area
in addressing problems associated with solid waste.

If you have any questions relating to the Anoka County Board of
Commissioners position on solid waste management or care to add any
other comments, please do not hesitate to con%act me.

With p~rsonal regards, I am,

S inc er~e~y,

Executive Secretary

RLM:cg
Enclosure

i.:~iii'i!i!iii~i Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer
,~=~,~,~ .
