Dougherty <br />Chief Administrator <br />Metropolitan Waste Control Commission <br />350 Metro Square Building <br />Seventh and Robert Streets <br />St. Paul, Minnesota 55101 <br /> <br />JAil 0 3 <br /> <br />Denial of Approval for <br />Sludge Application to <br />MWCC Site 702, 703, 704, <br />705, and 706 <br />Alan Pearson Property <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Dougherty~ <br /> <br />The following co~m~ents are made regarding the proposal of <br />December 24, 1979, wherein permission was requested to apply <br />liquid sludge from the Anoka wastewater treatment plant to <br />the private land of Alan Pearson, Anoka, Minnesota. The <br />proposed sites were given the designation of Metropolitan <br />Waste Control Commission (MWCC) Sites 702, 703, 704, 705, <br />and 706. Upon reviewing the submitted data and related <br />information, it was determined that the application of <br />sewage sludge to these sites may create potentially adverse <br />effects on health and/or the environment. <br /> <br />The reasons for not recommending or approving sludge application <br />to MWCC Sites 702, 703, 704, 705, and 706 are as follows: <br /> <br />According to the Soil Conservation Service's "Soil <br />Survey of Anoka County, ~t[nnesota", the above-mentioned <br />sites are almost totally composed of ~ubbard coarse <br />sand. The Hubbard soil ~onsists of a coarse s~nd about <br />20 inches thick and ~s ~nderlain by gravelly coarse sand. <br />The soil is excessively ~rained, permeability is rapid, <br />and cation exchange capacity ~s low. For these reasons, <br />there is a fair probability of chemicals and/or <br />microorganisms leaching to shallow ground water tables <br />with percolating water. <br /> <br /> <br />
