Gerald Zimmerman stated he feels that something should be done about reforestation and Ben Deemer concurred. Mr. Marston replied that the State has tree removal and reforestation funding and that some communities do have a program for replanting trees. Administrator Schnelle added that most cities are replanting trees where they have to be removed due to diseased trees, other cities are reforesting their diseased tree populations through the City's general tax base just along boulevards. Art Dunn doesn't feel that it would be feasible to have a tree program funded by the City's budget. Mayor Gamec noted that grants should be pursued and encouraged for tree replacement. Kathleen Schneider stated that there should be a program to have trees replaced on public thoroughfares where they are taken out by public improve- ment projects. Mayor Gamec stated that the Park Commission is looking into getting grant funding for planting trees in the City parks. Mr. Marston stated that the Cities' of Mound and Minnetrista have diseased tree programs whereby they h~ve identified a portion of the area they want to get involved w~th on tree removal and reforestation, The rest of the community is cut down on basis of individual identification.' Mayor Gamec explained that the City of Ramsey's diseased tree program is where the tree inspecto~ goes out on~call basis, identifies if a tree is diseased! and instructs the people to cut them down if they are diseased, There is. no enforcing of cuttlhng the diseased trees, Mr, Marston asked if they feel that this ~s an adequate program~ since unless there is a removal p~ogram~ there is no hope for removing the Elm and Oak disease.
