BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT MEETING CITY OF RAMSEY ANOKA COUNTY STATE OF MINNESOTA Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the City of Ramsey's Board of Adjustment met on January 8, 1980, at the Ramsey Municipal Center, 15153 Nowthen Boulevard N.W., Ramsey, Minnesota for the purpose of considering a request of~zes~e~n~3n~~rd~on~ti~, 14021 Azurite Street N.W., for a variance to the City's Site Plan/Building Design Plan Approval regulations. Members Present: Mayor Gamec Also Present: Councilman Cox Councilman Mickelson Councilman Reimann Councilman Sorteberg City Adm. Schnelle City Attorney Goodrich City Engineer Raatikka Chairman Mickelson called the meeting to order at 7:35 P.M. and led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The review and recommendation of the Planning & Zoning Commission was presented. The following comments were offered in regard to the request for waiving the requirement for the exterior appearance of the bui!di~g~ Mayor Gamec feels that one of the ma~%n purposes of the site plan ordinance is to st~r~ getting the'businesses- cleaned up and improved in appearance and to set consistent standard~ for ~ll'ex~sti~g businesses' ~which can be done w~th the'§~te plan when they expand o~ alter) and on all new developments that are proposed in either, commercial or industrial areas, Councilman Mickelson stated that one o~ h~s main concerns is that the present company, Midwestern Underground~ ~ay' not always be occup~-i~g this building and it should be built so that it would f~t other indust~al users who'may purchase it in the future~ He noted that th~s buildi'.ng ~s proposed to be built on a separate parcel of land and therefore~ it could be sold apart from the..existing busines~ Councilman Co~ indicated that he would like to see some exterior improvement to the building and also to t-fy and encourage the owners to upgrade the appearance of their exis~i.ng building~ if not now~ in the future.. Councilman Mickelson added that he feels if the City is going to have a set of standards to operate with. that it should be consistent and treat everyone the same~ further, a wood frame building is' completely different from the set of standards that were jus~ set up to prohibi~ this type of building, Councilman Rei~nann expressed concern that~naybe the City-is getting too restrictive for a person such as this that just w~nts.to put up a bui'ldi~g for cold storage uses,.
