The Anoka County Historical Society suddenly finds <br />it neeRs more money or it cannot continue to operate on the full time ~chedule <br />that it has maintained the last four years. Until January 1980 we were totally <br />funded by Anoka County. Our budget was suddenly and drastically reduced, un- <br />fortunately our operating expenses were not. <br /> <br />According to Minnesota statutes applying to County and Local Historical Societies, <br />Chapter 138.052 "The governing body of any city or town excepting cities of the <br />first class may appropriate annually an amount from its general fund if not to <br />exceed 1/3 of 1 mill of the assessed value of the taxable property in the city <br />or town, but not to exceed $500.00, to be used for the promotion of historical <br />work and to aid in defraying the expenses of carrying on the historical work <br />in said county° No city or town may appropriate funds for benefit of any hist- <br />orical society unless such society shall be affiliated with and approved by the <br />Minnesota Historical Society.
