City of Ramsey
15153 NOWTHEN BOULEVARD N.W., RAMSEY, MINNESOTA 55303 · (612) 427-1410

May 29, 1980

Mr. Edward Fields
County Commissioner
Anoka County Court House
~h~oka, Mdnnesota 55303

RE: Violation of the Ramsey Landfill Agreement and County Ordinance governing
landfills

Dear Mr. Fields:

The City Council of the' City of Ramsey is disturbed by the way Anoka County
has handled Waste Management of Minnesota, Inc.'s violations at the Ramsey
Landfill by stating in a letter to Mr. Otter that the Coanty does not feel
any ordinance violations have occurred at the landfill.

The City Council would like to point out that the City does have documention
showing that these were specific violations at the Ram~ey Landfill. These
recent violations are as follows:

a) ~Lllowing ponding of water on the landfill which permits leaching
into the landfill.

b) Allowing of the lime that is used on the sides of the landfill to
erode on to the adjacent residential yards. Waste Management failed
t° maintain a berm that would have prevented this situation from
happening.

Because of the above, the City of Ramsey feels that the County is very remiss
in the action you have taken on this matter. In view of this, the Coancil
feels the County Board should explain the rational of the above action to the
Ramsey City Council which action has created a real problem to the City Council
and the citizens of Ramsey.

Sincerely,

CITY OF RAMSEY

Thomas G. Gamec
Mayor
