Located within the City is Ramsey Elementary School which has a present <br />approximate enrollment of 900 pupils and ~l classrooms. Also, located at <br />R~ey's boundary in the City of Anoka is the Anoka Vocational Technical <br />Institute which offers a wide range of vocational career training for area <br />residents. The nearest higher education facility is Anoka-Ramsey Community <br />College in the City of Coon Rapids; a liberal arts school offering two- <br />year degrees. <br /> <br />GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION <br /> <br />The City of Ramsey has a mayor-oouncil form of government. The mayor is <br />elected for a two-year term while the four (4) Council members are elected <br />at large for four-year terms. A council appointed City Administrator man- <br />ages the daily office of the City. <br /> <br />The City's present mayor, Honorable Thomas Gamec is a former Ramsey Planning <br />and Zoning Commission member and has been the City's mayor s~nce January 1, <br />2979. The City Administrator, Lloyd Schnelle has been with the City since <br />July, 1978. He has formerly been a city administrator for various Minnesota <br />municipalities for the past eleven (11) years. <br /> <br />The City Planning Commission is responsible for advising the Council on all <br />matters concerning the physical development of the City~. Its members are <br />appointed by the Council. <br /> <br />The City Park and Recreation Committee is responsible for advising the <br />Council on all matters concerning the acquisition, maintenance and use <br />of the City's parks. Its members are appointed by the_Council. <br /> <br />The City Economic Development Commission works to'improve the City's commercial <br />and industrial tax base and to provide local employment. Its members are <br />appointed by the Council. <br /> <br />DEVELOPIIENT CONTROLS <br /> <br />In 1972, the City adopted a Comprehensive Plan which plan was subsequently <br />amended in 1977. To implement the plan, the City has adopted zoning and sub- <br />division ordinances. In 1978, the City. codified its' ordinances and included <br />therein its' Zoning and Subdivision ordinances as well as other growth control <br />regulations.
