The purpose of <br />the report is to identify ways counties can deal with solid <br />waste disposal other than by use of sanitary landfills. <br /> <br />The attached document---Land Disposal Abatement Strategies: <br />Major Issues---is intended to encourage publi6' 'discuSsion on <br />hhe scope Jnd content of the abatement report the Council will <br />prepare later this ~year. The discussion paper covers the major <br />questions that need to be resolved if a significant shift from <br />landfilting to alternative disposal methods, such as waste re- <br />duction, processing and separation, and resource recovery, is <br />to be accomplished. The paper also contains a general outline <br />showing the organization of the land disposal abatement report <br />the Council will prepare. <br /> <br />The issues paper will be discussed at a meeting of the Council's <br />Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Advisory Committee at <br />2:30 p.m.,Wednesday, September 3, in the Metropolitan Council <br />Chambers (see list of meetings on page 2). You are invited to <br />present your comments orally to the advisory committee or to <br />submit written comments on the issues document. <br /> <br />We hope discussion of the issues covered in this document will <br />help develop new information and data that can be used by the <br />Council in preparing the preliminary land disposal abatement <br />report.
